NOTE : I have NOT reseached the Northamptonshire CAKEBREADs in any depth apart from trying to trace the movement of male CAKEBREADs to get a general picture.
Hopefully one day a descendant of one of them will take up the research in detail.
Naturally I would be delighted to hear from anyone who has traced their ancestors back to these families.
Early references to the CAKEBREAD name in the IGI for the County seem all to be marriages of CAKEBREADs from Bloxham, which is just over the border in Oxfordshire.
I suspect the 1st CAKEBREAD in Northamptonshire may have been Joseph CAKEBREAD, a Weaver from Bloxham who came over the border from Oxfordshire and married Ann DALE in 1774 in Brackley. It is not clear whether they stayed in Northants or moved back to Bloxham as no apparent children have been found (perhaps Thomas 1775 (see below) was one). However Joseph appears to have been buried in Bloxham in 1823 aged 69 (and possibly Ann too in1829 aged 78) so it seems likely they lived in Bloxham for some time.
Another Northants marriage is William CAKEBREAD (from Bloxham OXF) who married Elizabeth PING (from Chacombe) on 04-Nov 1790 at Chacombe by Banns.
The next record is the marriage of Thomas CAKEBREAD to Catherine Hill in Oct 1802 at Culworth, both stated to be "of this Parish". Thomas is believed to have been born about 1775 but his parents have not been defined yet. Obviously Thomas had close links to Bloxham and the couple possibly lived there after their marriage as 3 of their children were baptised in Bloxham.
A list I have compiled of known Northamptonshire Cakebread persons can be seen here.
This Chart below shows what I believe was the extent of the Northamptonshire CAKEBREADs in the 19th Century beginning with Thomas (so ignoring the possibility that Joseph and Ann stayed there). Throughout this period the predominant occupation was Stone Mason or Monumental Mason. By 1901 some had moved to the London.
