Birth: John was born in or near the remote hamlet of Lowgill near the north Lancashire and Yorkshire border in 1749 (from marriage licence application).(Research is still continuing)
Christening: He was christened on 8 Dec 1749 at Lowgill.

Parents: Edmund CORT and Jane Walker.

Early Life: Nothing is known

Occupation: John was a Butcher in 1768, 1770 and 1783 and had a business at Mealhouse Lane, Bolton.

Marriage:
He married Ann AINSWORTH, the daughter of Peter Ainsworth and Alice at St. Peter's Church, Bolton on 29th November 1768. Ann's father was the founder of the Halliwell Bleachworks in Bolton.

Children:

1. Edward 1769 in Bolton...Chr. 10th Sep 1769 St. Peter's, Bolton. Edward married Mary HARDY on 12 Dec 1791 at Flixton, Lancs and later moved to Chorley, Lancashire


2. Peter 1772 in Bolton...Chr. 7 Jun 1772 St. Peter's, Bolton. Peter married Priscilla WRAITH on 2 Apr 1795 at St.Peter's, Bolton. He later owned the Horrobin Mill Bleachworks at Turton, near Bolton.


3. Ann 1779 in Bolton...Chr. 21 Mar 1779 St. Peter's, Bolton.


4. Thomas 1780 in Bolton. Chr. 10 Sep 1780 St. Peter's, Bolton. Thomas became a Muslin Manufacturer in Bolton. He is believed to have stayed single and lived with his aunt Alice Cocksey (nee Ainsworth) and cousin Thomas Ainsworth at Brinks Place, Bolton. Thomas died in 1836 and was buried at St. George's Church on 25 May 1836.


Death of wife : Ann died in August 1789 aged 50 and was buried at Bolton Parish Church in the Ainsworth family vault.

Death: John died April 30th 1791 aged about 40 and was buried at Bolton Parish Church in the Ainsworth family vault.
