The
old centre of Allesley is preserved by its inclusion in the "Allesley Village
Conservation Area." It contains several attractively preserved 17th Century
cottages and old houses.

This lovely mellow stone built house probably dates
from before 1600 .

Opposite to The Stonehouse is "The Lodge" with its lovely
mature walled garden at the rear.

In keeping with the Conservation
Area status it will be noticed in the following photograph that no overhead
telephone lines exist and that the lamposts are appropropriately
designed. These half-timbered cottages clustered in the old village centre
attract a lot of admiration. Compare the 2003 photograph below with the
beautiful drawing made 60 years earlier by E.W.Green (http://www.ewgreen.org.uk).

Although not a house but demanding a place on
this page is the old village pub, the little Rainbow Inn, which stands among
these old houses. The original construction, some of which can still be seen,
is 16th century.
