Places:
Pat's family origins on her father's side come from Shropshire (particularly around Wellington) and from the Leyland area of Lancashire.

Our COOKSONs were from the Leyland area of Lancashire. My records start with Thomas Cookson, from Woodplumpton, north of Preston, Lancashire (Woodplumpton history). The early ones were in the Wheelwright or Carpenter trade.

Pat's GREGORY ancestors were initially from Shawbury, Shropshire (Shawbury history). My records start with John Gregory, born possibly in about 1690. He died in Shawbury in 1744. Two generations later his grandson Joseph moved to Wellington, Shropshire, where the family lived for many years. Some slightly distant relations still live there.
Pat's ancestors were furnace workers at the local ironworks and lived in Glasshouse Row, Wrockwardine Wood for several generations.
In the early 20th Century, 3 brothers, Samuel, William and Frederick, moved to Leyland in Lancashire for work. William later moved to Coventry with his wife and children but Samuel and Frederick stayed in Leyland area. There will no doubt be related GREGORYs still living there and I would like to hear from them.

I have also provided details other branches of the family descended from John Gregory (details provided by another researcher). From Shawbury one line of this family moved to Market Drayton, Shropshire and later to Hanley, Staffs. Another moved to Shifnal.

The CROSSes were from the beautiful Welsh borders near Bishops Castle. They were Masons. Sometime before 1868 William Cross moved to the Wellington area of Shropshire where he married and settled.
