shop in Mealhouse Lane, Bolton.
Mother: Ann Cort (nee
Ainsworth)
Early Life: As a child he probably lived in
central Bolton at or near to his father's shop.
Occupation:
In 1795 he was a Calico Manufacturer but in
about 1801 Peter took over the Horrobin Mill Bleachworks from James Ainsworth,
his uncle. He later ran this as Peter Cort &Co. In 1826 he was bankrupt but
recovered. He was joined in the business by his son , Peter
Siblings: It is known he had at least 2 brothers, Edward and Thomas and one sister Ann.
Marriage:
He married Priscilla Wraith at St. Peter, Bolton Le Moors,
Lancs, on 2 April 1795.

1.Mary Ann Cort ... 1798 in
Bolton.... Chr. 13th October 1798. at St.George's, Bolton Le Moor. Mary Ann
married Joseph Winder 28 Jun 1833 at St. Peter's, Bolton.
2.Peter Cort ... on 16th Jan 1801 at Turton, Bolton.
Chr. 2nd April 1801 at St.George's, Bolton LeMoor. He married Elizabeth Spencer
and died in 1850.
3.James Wraith Cort ... 1803 at Turton,
Bolton...Chr. 15 Jun 1803 at St.George's, Bolton Le Moor. He died aged 18 and
was buried on 1 Apr 1821 at St George's Church, Bolton.
4.Caroline
Cort ... 1806 at Turton, Bolton . She died aged 5 weeks on 7 Feb 1806 and
was buried at St George's Church, Bolton
Death: Peter died aged 58 and was buried on 4 Jul 1830 at St George's Church, Bolton
