. After their marriage John and Ann
lived at New Town and Roadway in Bedworth for about 15 years where John was a
Coal Miner. Then they decided to emigrate to the USA. Ann arrived in New York
on board a ship called The Chancellor on June 17, 1863. John is not listed on
the ship's manifest so he must have come at another time. Ann was listed as a
servant on the manifest, and her children were with her. The family settled in
central Illinois, which is in the central US. John was a coalminer and they
lived in Litchfield, Illinois. Ann died on April 1, 1898, and John died on
October 5, 1899. |

The Parish Registers show Ann's parents
to be Isaac Ison, a tailor, and Catherine. However several experienced
researchers are of opinion like myself that a bizarre mistake was made at her
baptism. We are sure that her parents were Charles ISON (who was a
tailor) and Catherine (nee HOPKINS) who had married in 1823. We have been
unable to find any trace of an Isaac other than a 12 year old relative living
20 miles away. This family did seem to have some strange conceptions but we
doubt THAT one ! Although Charles died in 1837 Catherine remarried and Ann ISON
is shown living with her re-married mother on the 1841 Census. |
